About Anxiety Disorders
DR. JOHANNA
BERGER,
Clinical Psychologist
I specialize in diagnosing and treating Anxiety Disorders in children, adolescents, and adults. I treat a range of anxiety disorders, including generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), specific phobias, panic disorder and panic attacks, social anxiety disorder, selective mutism, and separation anxiety. I also specialize in diagnosing and treating Obsessive- Compulsive Disorder (OCD) across the lifespan.
Is your child often worried or fearful? Does he have an intense fear of dogs, bugs, flying, or another object/situation? Does your child have an extremely hard time being separated from you, making it difficult for her to stay with relatives or go to summer camp? Does your child worry excessively about giving class presentations and experience physical symptoms (for example, dizziness, headaches, sweating, trembling, or heart pounding) when speaking in front of people? I am here to address your concerns and help your child.
Do you worry excessively and feel like you cannot control your worry? Are you often irritable, restless, and tense? Do you constantly worry about being negatively evaluated by others? Are you experiencing unwanted thoughts, urges, or images that are causing you anxiety or distress? I'm here to help.
People often don't realize that, in addition to problems that raise serious concerns, psychologists also treat problems that are mild or moderate in severity. Even if you don't reach the full criteria for an anxiety disorder, you may experience symptoms that hinder your quality of life. Maybe you've noticed that your child is avoiding her peers and you aren't sure why. Or, you’ve noticed that you are easily frustrated, often worried, or frequently avoiding social situations. I am available to teach you skills, including skills that can help with interpersonal difficulties, managing anxiety effectively, and addressing unhelpful thinking patterns or behaviors.
I often ask my clients, what are you avoiding? Is there an activity, such as public speaking or networking, that you avoid because of your anxiety? Maybe you feel distress just thinking about that activity. Do you have the belief that you are 'bad at public speaking' and 'horrible at networking'? Therapy can help you reach your full potential professionally by addressing unhelpful behaviors and challenging the related negative thought patterns. Let me help you face what you are avoiding.
Please call today for help diagnosing and addressing your anxiety, OCD, or any related concerns. I look forward to helping you.
